ADHD can affect a person’s ability to focus, pay attention and control impulses or restlessness.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition that can make it harder for people to focus, pay attention, and control their impulses (urges to do things). It’s thought to affect the way certain parts of the brain sends and receives messages. ADHD can impact a person’s ability to do things like study and work.

ADHD is a developmental disorder associated with an ongoing pattern of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity. Symptoms of ADHD can interfere with daily activities and relationships. ADHD begins in childhood and can continue into the teen years and adulthood.

Inattention – hard for them to focus on things for a long period of time. They might forget important things like tasks they really need to do, or have trouble following instructions at school, work or home. This can lead to unfished tasks or switching between tasks without finishing them. It can be tough to concentrate on things that need a lot of mental effort over a long period of time.

Impulsivity – when you have a difficult time stopping yourself from doing something you feel like doing, even if you know it’s not a good idea. Some people call this difficulty controlling impulses. This can make it tough to wait for things or to think before acting. For example, feeling frustrated about waiting a turn in conversation and interrupting others.

Hyperactivity – when someone feels restless and fidgety. It can be difficult to sit still, and the person may have a strong urge to talk and move around a lot. Some people describe it like they have a motor inside that won’t stop or slow down, and they keep going even when they’re tired. This can make it hard to participate in activities, or games calmly.

ADHD Symptoms and challenges

Impact of ADHD on Children's Daily Life and Learning

ADHD symptoms can change over time as a child grows and moves into the preteen and teenage years. In young children with ADHD, hyperactivity and impulsivity are the most common symptoms. As academic and social demands increase, symptoms of inattention become more prominent and begin to interfere with academic performance and peer relationships.

Symptoms of inattention and impulsivity typically continue and may cause worsening academic, organizational, and relationship challenges. Teens with ADHD also are more likely to engage in impulsive, risky behaviours, including substance use and unsafe sexual activity.

ADHD can have a significant impact on a student’s ability to learn in the classroom and at home because it can interfere with a child’s concentration, focus, and impulse control which leads to difficulty in understanding and retaining information. Students with ADHD may become fidgety, agitated, and distracted which results in disruptive behaviour that can prevent the learning process. ADHD is often comorbid with learning disabilities that can exaggerate problems at school.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common childhood neurodevelopmental disorders, affecting approximately 3.3 million children and adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 years old. This condition comes with symptoms that can affect everyday life for those diagnosed with it, such as difficulty paying attention, getting along with others and sitting still. While a ‘cure’ for ADHD is currently unavailable, there are solutions which make the symptoms more manageable, improving productivity, concentration, mood and overall wellbeing.

In order to keep track of player’s progress, there is the Reset Moves Dashboard which is a web portal that will let teachers/caregivers set challenges and sessions for their players, as well as tracking

  • How many times they’ve used the app
  • How much movement they’ve done over time
  • How their mood has been affected
  • And a host of other useful and interesting metrics to make sure they’re getting the most out of Reset Moves.
